Welcome
I have been thinking and writing about the history, theology, and spirituality of Christianity for nearly two decades.
Substack is an entirely new venture for me—I am learning, as I go! But my intention is to post reflective pieces about those topics closest to my heart, or most on my mind.
Medieval monasteries are likely to feature heavily, as is the Virgin Mary, mother of God, since these have been the primary topics of my research.
I also take a keen interest in criminal justice and have co-authored a short book on the place, meaning, and role of forgiveness within restorative justice.
As for my biography:
I am Head of Development at Durham Cathedral—likely to be another prominent theme—and an honorary fellow in the Department of Theology and Religion, Durham University.
Before moving to Durham, I held lectureships in medieval studies and theology within the University of Oxford.
I remain a senior member of Regent’s Park College, Oxford, where it was my privilege to teach, as well as a senior member of St Chad’s College, Durham.
I am visting lecturer of the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology, Cambridge.
If you decide to join me on this journey, you will be most welcome.
